What Moves the Price
Brush density
By far the biggest driver. Doubling the stem count roughly doubles the machine hours, and machine hours are what you're paying for.
Tree diameter
Mulchers handle stems up to about 8 inches efficiently. Anything larger slows the head dramatically and may need to be cut and removed separately.
Acreage
Cost per acre drops as the job gets bigger. A five-acre tract is meaningfully cheaper per acre than a single acre because mobilization is spread across more work.
Terrain and moisture
Wet, soft or steep ground slows everything down and sometimes requires a different machine. In the rainy season, some tracts need to dry out first.
Obstacles
Fences, wells, septic fields, power lines and dumped debris all mean careful, slower work — and sometimes hand clearing.
Travel distance
We're based in Lawtey. Jobs inside Duval, Bradford, Baker and Nassau counties carry little to no mobilization cost. Farther out, we add for transport.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is forestry mulching cheaper than traditional land clearing?
Usually, yes — often 30–50% cheaper for brush and small trees, because there's no hauling, no dump fees, no burn permits and no stump grinding. Traditional clearing wins when you need bare dirt for a foundation or driveway.
Does the mulch have to be removed?
No. That's the point. The mulch layer stays in place, suppresses regrowth, and prevents erosion. It breaks down into the soil over a couple of seasons.
How many acres can you do in a day?
Light brush: 2–4 acres a day. Medium: roughly 1–2 acres. Heavy woods: under an acre. That daily rate is really what the per-acre price is built from.
